Two ski and bike bums living in Whistler, British Columbia; Rory Malkin (UK) and Liam McCook (Aus) were friends for years before they even talked about their shared love of music. They had plenty of other important things in common to discuss. Like mountain biking. And beers. Then, one fateful Christmas day, they discovered that they in fact had nigh-on identical taste in music and it just so happened that Rory sang and played guitar, and Liam played Bass! Obviously the only reasonable thing to do was to start a band.

After playing together for several years under a different moniker, releasing one double A-side EP, with producer/engineer Jeremy Royal of Sonic Canoe, Liam and Rory were faced with the small problem of a global pandemic. They knuckled down, though, and faced all of the challenges and adversity head on.

In late 2020, once live music slowly started up again in British Columbia, Liam and Rory made a hail Mary move and agreed to play several shows in the Sea-to-Sky area, including the Arts Whistler Hear and Now Festival, under the new name Introduce Wolves, before they’d even fully fleshed out their band with a drummer or a lead guitarist.

Most bands will tell you that it’s important to find the right people with the right chemistry, when looking at prospective band mates. Through mutual friends and local jam nights, Liam and Rory did just that, when they met skin basher Kevin Condie (Canada), and string shredder Phil Cartwright (Aus). The four boys quickly bonded over a passion for heavier music, and the belief that it was sorely under-represented in the local scene. And so it was; after a handful of rushed, last minute practices, Introduce Wolves performed on stage as a complete band for the first time.

In early 2022, Introduce Wolves released the Inverted World EP. The Inverted World EP is a four track EP, recorded at Rain City Recorders in Vancouver with producer Emily Ryan. It deals with themes ranging from childhood dreams to climate change and with a whole lot of angst and melancholy in between.

After playing with him for two years, The Wolves amicably parted ways with drummer Kevin Condie in late 2022 after he moved away from Whistler. After some searching and auditioning, they found a replacement beat-keeper in young-gun Sean Clarke who at the time was playing in another local band and at regular open-mic nights. Sean fitted in with the band perfectly, both personally and musically, so it made perfect sense to bring him into the fold.

Introduce Wolves continue to play and create music in the sea-to-sky corridor, and are set to release their next studio project by the end of 2023.

Taking musical influence from prog rock/metal, alt-rock and post-hardcore bands such as Tool, Oceansize, The Smashing Pumpkins, QOTSA and Biffy Clyro.

Introduce Wolves combine all of their individual tastes and influences into an intense, fuzzed out sound, with soaring melodic hooks, progressive rhythms and driving basslines.

Their music is at times frantic, hectic and fast-paced, at other times straight up aggressive and angsty, and at others, introspective, quiet and melancholic whilst remaining uplifting. This all combines into a vicious elixir of alternative rock with lyrics fueled by modern day angst.

Why Introduce Wolves? Introducing wolves into a suitable struggling ecosystem to restore balance is a technique that has been used successfully multiple times in North America. The introduction of wolves, being highly adaptable predators causes a cascade of changes in the ecosystems, which ultimately restores things back to their natural order.

Introduce Wolves is our way of trying to restore balance.

Is there a modern problem that can't be resolved by the introduction of wolves? Forests, rivers, shopping malls, governments, influencer culture, recording studios?

Introduce wolves.
